OCPRSA Hosts Successful Summer Night with the Media Event

Members of the communications and journalism communities gathered for an evening of networking, collaboration, and camaraderie at Orange County Public Relations Society of America’s Summer Night with the Media on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. The event took place at Water Grill in Costa Mesa, where attendees enjoyed cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and the chance to connect with local media professionals.

Designed to foster connections between public relations practitioners and journalists, the event offered a relaxed atmosphere free from the pressures of deadlines. Attendees engaged in lively conversations and built valuable relationships to enhance their professional networks.

“This event allowed me to make new connections, share best practices with professionals, and arrange potential collaborations in the future,” said Samuel Hasson, a marketing and communications associate at Venture Strategic Inc.

For media attendees, the event served as a great way to become acquainted with PR professionals who could provide valuable insights for their stories. "My first time attending the OCPRSA Media Mixer was a great chance to not only meet new sources but also put faces to the names of people I've been collaborating with," said Yuika Yoshida, a reporter at Orange County Business Journal.

In a unique twist, OCPRSA members were encouraged to personally invite reporters from their networks, highlighting the power of membership within the organization. This initiative proved to be a successful strategy for strengthening ties between PR professionals and the media, with many members bringing along journalists as their guests.

A Summer Night with the Media showcased the benefits of OCPRSA membership and emphasized the importance of collaboration between the PR and journalism fields. Attendees left the event with new contacts, refreshed perspectives, and a stronger sense of community within the local media landscape.
