Welcome Message from OCPRSA President Meg Treat, APR

To the members of OCPRSA and all those in our orbit,

Happy New Year! I can’t believe that 2024 has finally arrived. Over this past year, I’ve been preparing to assume the role of president of our outstanding organization. I’m looking forward to serving each and every one of you as we make our next trip around the sun!

Service to you, our members, has been the primary thing on my mind coming into this new year. It’s been at the forefront as I design goals for our Board of Directors. Our profession, after all, is about creating mutually beneficial relationships – and I truly want you to feel that your membership is as beneficial for you as it is for our organization as a whole.

If you’re anything like me, you took a close look at where you invested your time and your money outside the office over the last few years. I actually resigned my membership from multiple membership organizations that I had previously been deeply involved in, ones I had been a member of for years and years. I determined amid the pandemic that they were no longer providing me with the benefits and value I was looking for.

OCPRSA is the one place where I kept my membership. It was the place where I stepped up my leadership when I was stepping back from other groups. Why? For me, it has provided value, community, opportunities and so much more.

It’s my goal that every member of our organization will feel this same sense of belonging and reap big benefits from being a part of OCPRSA. We’re looking at every committee and determining how we can set objectives that guide us toward one common goal: creating a superb membership experience that provides you with value. You invested in us with your dues. We want to invest in you with all that we offer!

I want to thank immediate past president Elena Bosch, APR, for her leadership and mentorship over this past year. If you weren’t already aware, our organization’s finances are very healthy coming into 2024. This is not the case for most chapters across the country. Elena’s focus on this important matter and her guidance to our board last year made this success possible. That financial stability has given me the privilege to focus on new goals and initiatives. I am grateful to you, Elena.

Many things will feel familiar this year in OCPRSA – outstanding programs and events, our nationally recognized APR Study Session course and DE&I Summit, opportunities to give back alongside your fellow members and so much more.

Some things will be new and reinvigorated – our YoPro and Senior Roundtable engagement, our sponsorship offerings, and how we connect with you on digital platforms. (For example, our InBox newsletter will now be coming to you once a month instead of twice a month.)

These are sparkly and exciting updates to share, but the route to making these plans a reality is paved with new processes and procedures behind the scenes – yep, the boring stuff will help us bring the fabulous stuff to life! Those new standardized systems will empower our leadership to be the best they can be.

This weekend, I’m leading our new Board of Directors through our annual retreat. This is an opportunity to kick off the year and set our strategic plan for 2024 in motion. If you have any feedback or questions you’d like to share about your OCPRSA experience, send them to me soon. I’ll be sure to share it with the rest of the board as we design this upcoming year together.

May this new year be filled with opportunities to share amazing stories.

Meg Treat, APR
OCPRSA President
